Here I Am!
August 14, 2018
People will say, “I just want God to use me” – but the truth is, no loving father would ever say ‘my mission is to use my kids as much as I can!’
If you’ve ever used this phrase before – don’t worry, me too! I’ve just been challenged lately to think differently after a devotional I read. Our Heavenly Father longs for us to be companions with Him and join Him in His work. And oh, how rewarding that work is when you find yourself connecting with others, growing in your own faith and seeing others take next steps in theirs!
You’ll never find God using people in scripture, but you will find God partnering with them, moving through them, fighting alongside them and commissioning them. In a season where most of our publications and announcements are around inviting you to serve and partner in the mission of helping people find their way back to God, remember the same is true here. The Fair Haven Staff doesn’t want to use you – we just want to encourage and equip you to join Him and others in our church family in the work He wants to do and is already doing! A work that is making an eternal difference in the lives of kids, students, and adults!
The body of Christ really is functioning at its best when all of the body is contributing. At VBS this year, we sang a song called My Life for You. Within this powerful song are the lyrics:
I want to serve, I want to give,
I want to live my life for You.
So here I am, take all of me,
I want live my life for You, Jesus!’
This is what being a Christ follower is all about- and the reason we join Him in His work. It’s not out of shame, manipulation, guilt or reluctance. It’s out of gratitude for God’s relentless love for us and Jesus’ rescuing work on the cross! Perhaps, in addition, it’s even in response to how a particular program impacted our own life that drives us to be involved.
At Fair Haven, it’s our heart’s desire that we will all fully engage in the mission with no one sitting on the sidelines (it’s no fun there anyway!)
If you want some help discerning where you might engage, I’d love to help you process that and help you find your sweet spot. A place to serve where you can’t wait to get here, connect with other teammates and know without a shadow of a doubt that you’re making a difference that will matter 100 years from now.
