Remembering Who We Are
December 27, 2013
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.” – Isaiah 7:14
There are few people in our generation who have had as much impact or have gained as much world-wide respect as Billy Graham. He is a man that has lived his life with purpose. When he speaks, people take note. What he spoke about Christmas is powerful. He said, “The very purpose of Christ’s coming into the world was that He might offer up His life as a sacrifice for the sins of people. He came to die. This is the heart of Christmas.” At the heart of Christmas is a manger for birth and a cross for death. At the heart of Christmas is an Inn that is packed and a tomb that is empty.
I have watched athletes that are so graceful it seems they were born to play. I have listened to preachers wax eloquent so well they seem they were born to preach. Bruce Springsteen sang, “Baby you were born to run.” Well, the baby that was born in Bethlehem was born to die. At the heart of His story is a love so deep, so wide, so high, and so long it would stop at nothing to win us back to Him.
As we enter this New Year let’s remember Christmas. Let’s remember who we are. We are the redeemed. We belong to the tribe that has been bought at a tremendous price. We are a family that is called to live with purpose as we help people find their way back to God!
