The story of Genesis is, in many ways, the story of a family.
Through Abraham, God formed a family. Like all families, they face challenges and set-backs; there is betrayal and loss. But, God refuses to give up on this family and he refuses to let them give up on each other.
This family grows until it becomes … a nation.
The word “Israel” means “to wrestle with God.” In this series we will continue the drama of Joseph and we’ll see how it’s through wrestling with God that we learn how to communicate with him. It’s through wrestling with God that we learn how to heal what is broken. It’s through wrestling with God that we discover where our strength ends and where His begins.
As we wrap up Genesis, we do so by turning the spotlight from the family God has been raising up, to the church of Jesus. The first Christians insisted that they were the “new Israel.” Like a branch grafted into the root of a tree, we too are connected into this story.
This is our heritage.
This is our legacy.
It’s now our turn to continue the story forward.
